Last night we were fortunate enough to have Will Gaunitz of Evolution Hair Centers on the program to discuss his personal experience with Steve Bennis, formerly of Natural Hair Growth Institute and now American Hair Growth Centers.
Will’s been documenting some of Steve Bennis’ most recent alleged fraudulent activity on his blog which we’re sure is of great interest to The Illinois State Attorney General’s Office.

I cannot say enough about how much of a crook Steve Bennis is. My brother had gone to him to seek treatment for something that was emotional and he so dearly wanted to fix. Steve had totally swindled my brother off of two grand. He told my brother that his treatment is novel, and gave his elaborate speech about how no one wants to admit his treatment works because it’ll “run the other hair growth doctors out of business”. Well my brother was really skeptical, he is a smart man, and when Steve aka “Dave” introduced himself (with a white coat even though he never even went to med school), told him that the entire 6 month procedure would cost him 8000$ my bro backed out. After this Steve tried high pressure salesman tactics in order to make him sign papers to the treatment. My brother refused and walked out saying, I’ll only pay you as I go, 2000 for the first 4 months is all I’ll give and only if the contract states a full refund if not satisfied with treatment. Steve called back the next day saying that he’d agree with my brothers stipulations. So my brother went to his treatments, many times steve didn’t show for his own patient, would forget, and not give my bro any importance. After 6 months of selling special shampoos and the novel “red light” therapy, my brother didn’t get any hair growth but actually seemed to have lost more hair. He was using Minoxidil years before the treatment, and ‘wise’ steve told him to stop it. After 6 months, my brother approaches steve to tell him that his treatments have not shown any growth, and that he wants his money back as per the contract. Steve then send him to a “hair specialist” for a second opinion to a ‘doctor’, actually a hired lackey. He tells my brother that he should start Propecia and yep you guessed it…be on minoxidil. Really? Anyone with some knowledge on hairgrowth medications could have also told you that these two have the best success with clinical trails and proven results by thw medical community with published literature. Long story short, the crook is now playing games with my brother, using his secretaries email to answer emails that are being sent to him from my brother ( my bro knows this bc the secretary had told my brother personally that she quit working for him). My brother and I have done all kinds of digging on this man. He is currently in several lawsuits on many accounts of fraud. I just hope no one ever makes a teh decision to go to this dishonest man. He is the personifcation of what is bad about cosmetic healthcare. Idiots who have no humanity and are out there for a buck. Do research before going anywhere please. And tell all your friends who even consider American Hair Growth Centers, that the glitz and glamor of there professional websites and luxourious offices are being paid by the money of the poor desparate patients who just are just plain swindled. We are filing lawsuit as well. And lastly, I am a physician and I will alert the medical community of this man and every crooked individual who works for him.
