Hair Loss can be devastating, but at least balding guys wont starve in Tulsa Oklahoma.

Customers of the Arizona Mexican Restaurant, at 6605 South Lewis Avenue in Tulsa, who meet their “balding criteria” receive between 10 to 30 percent off of their meals every Tuesday.

The brain child of Heyka Zambrano, the restaurant’s owner, Bald Tuesdays has been in effect for about a year and was implemented as a way to increase business,  which is apparently working.

“Gentlemen come in and sometimes they wear their hats.  They come to pay and take the cap off and I say, what do you think, is this worth 30 percent?”

Well, we guess it’s better than a kick in the ass!

I’m 16 and I’m Going Bald!

January 26, 2010

Hair loss at any age can be devastating, but to begin the hair loss process as a teenager is beyond the scope of what most teens will ever be forced to cope with. A larger percentage of boys deal with the early onset of male pattern hair loss than most people realize. An estimated 20% of hair loss sufferers begin the process of balding before than age of twenty one, and many begin before they even graduate from high school. What these young hair loss sufferers need to know is that they are not alone and that there is life after hair loss.

It’s important that teens confide in their parents, and  seek the advise of a physician who specializes in hair loss as soon as they notice any change in their hair. Early intervention is always the key to the effective treatment of hair loss, but immediate emotional support can be even more important during this extremely vulnerable time in a young hair loss sufferers life.

Last week a young man posted his story and plea for help on the BaldtruthTalk.com message forums:

“I am a 16 year old boy, and this is my story. For about a year now, I have been losing my hair.”

“Every single day, I dedicated it to finding a cure. But found nothing.. I discovered Hair Restoration on the internet, and went to a hair restoration company.. The lady at the consultation felt bad for me, so she sent me to see a surgeon.. Once I saw him, all he did was prescribe me Propecia, and tell me that my donor area was outstanding (really good). But I couldn’t fill it because they said I had to be 18.. I bought a very expensive wig to cover it up, but it makes me feel faker than ever when I wear it.. I can’t do the activities I wish to do with it on either, or it will just fall off.. I cry a lot because of it.. I don’t go outside anymore because of it.. And it hurts so much emotionally because of my age.. Some nights, I even cry myself to sleep because of it.” “I wish someone could fix this, and make it go away.”

Hot Bald Chicks

September 3, 2008

Men are no strangers to hair loss. In fact, as men age, male pattern baldness is  par for the course. But what about women? Are they getting off easy?

Statistics show that over 40% of all hair loss sufferers are women. In fact, you probably know a woman who’s coping with hair loss and doing a good job of hiding it. But if you knew that a woman was sporting a slick scalp and wearing a wig to conceal it, would you look at her in a different way?

Would you date her?

What if your girlfriend or wife started losing her hair? In our society we hold men and women up to different standards. Guys can get away with a receding hairline, even if it’s not our ideal look. Girls, on the other hand, can’t really pull it off. Or can they? [Read more]

John Hurt’s Bald New Look Makes Headlines

August 12, 2008

Actor John Hurt recently shaved his head bald for a role he’s playing in the upcoming film An Englishman in New York, which is scheduled for release later this year. The film brings back Quentin Crisp, a character that Hurt played in the 1975 TV movie The Naked Civil Servant.

Britain’s The Daily Mail celebrity gossip journal reported on Hurt’s new ‘do on its website Mail Online (www.dailymail.co.uk), and included before and after shots showing Hurt with and without his hairline intact.

In the before photo, it’s clear that Hurt’s hairline was already receding even before he shaved his hair all the way off, an indication that he’s presenting relatively mild and age appropriate male pattern baldness

Hurt is one guy who can pull off a shaved head and actually look better. Plenty of hair loss sufferers, especially men, struggle with the choice of whether to go completely bald. While many options for hiding the effects of hair loss are available, including hairpieces and medical treatment, shaving it all off can be the quickest, easiest route.

However, the shaved look isn’t for everyone. The biggest drawback is that this style doesn’t look good on most people. It also leaves the scalp exposed to weather, both sun and cold. Hopefully, actor John Hurt will remember to apply plenty of sunscreen this summer!

Hair Loss and Culture - Debunking the Stereotypes

August 10, 2008

The geek with the receding hairline. The greasy, balding business man. The egomaniac with a combover. The hot stud with the smooth head.

These are all stereotypes that our culture associates with the bald and balding. Doesn’t the description, “short, fat, and bald” render a concrete image in your mind? What about “bald and sexy?” Did you visualize Vin Diesel?

The first fallacy with bald stereotypes is that they almost always relate specifically to men despite the fact that 40% of hair loss sufferers are women. With statistics like that, you’d expect a portion of the stereotypes associated with hair loss to represent females, but they don’t.

The next fallacy has to do with polarity. In one extreme, we have the bald loser. He’s the guy who can’t get a date, lives alone, and annoys even his own friends. Think George Costanza of Seinfeld fame and you’ll get the picture. At the other extreme, we have sexy daredevils who are confident and alluring, and are often heroes. Bruce Willis epitomizes this image, even though for a good portion of his career he was wearing hair pieces. But even after he went for the full shave, women still considered him hot. [Read more]
