Geoff’s Hair Loss Story – I Started To Lose My Hair At 17

Hi Spencer,

I am writing you to tell you about the experience of losing my hair. At the age of 17, I began to notice my hairline receding. A girl at school teased me during an assembly about a bald spot I had on the back of my head. Others began to tease me as well. At work, the same thing began to happen. I desperately tried to cover up my hairline by combing the hair downward. Before work, I would cut hair from the top of my head and put it on the front. That didn’t work so well. I had to drop out of school as a result. To make matters worse, I had a very young looking face at my age. I did not have the capacity to deal with the teasing at that age. What choice did I have? Balding at such a young age was devastating. Absolutely brutal! I had a constant sinking feeling in my gut that wouldn’t go away. I looked at it as a form of premature aging. I felt as though I was an alien, not meant to live in this world. I did not date, nor did I have any relations with girls at all through my teens and twenties.

I’m hoping that there will be other young men who are in their teens and twenties who will read my story, and know that they are not alone. They’re not weak, superficial or vain for being upset about hairloss. I hope they will be able to find some solace within this. The sexist double standard must be broken down. Men must be allowed to grieve over their hairloss. It’s not a joke. It’s not funny. It changes your life. Society makes a joke out of mens’ hairloss, because men aren’t expected to have feelings.Yes, it bothers us. Yes, it bothers me. It always will…..

-Geoff

    hello all,

    Hope someone is listening!
i started to listen to the podcasts recently (the old podcasts that were avaliable), but i only have 5 shows from itunes, i was getting into the mindset that i was about to listen from 2005 onward to get upto date (crazy i know-but i’ve found out the show is like a drug) but realise the podcasts don’t go any further than 5 shows from back in 2005, is there anyway all the Bald Truth shows podcast are some place safe so i can get them downloaded? oh, and Spencer (if you’re reading this, perhaps not) i signed-up to TBT on itunes as he/you told us to do…back in 2005. ummm, hope that makes sense.

I’m in the UK and it’s not easy getting in on the latest installments.

    Thanks, 57MPH

  • I feel your pain dude. Your story is very much like mine but I started losing mine at 15 and was pretty much bald by 21. I was constantly ridiculed for it and I couldn’t get a date in my teens or twenty’s unless I hid behind a hat. I spent most of this time alone like you. Needless to say its made for a sad and unhappy life.
